CEO of Coolwurfs Jimmy Sponkdor has defended the supermarkets policy of dumping surplus produce into the ocean, claiming that ‘resource scarcity is a vital aspect of our business model’.  With record levels of unemployment and homelessness on the rise critics of Spoondrank have labelled the practice ‘inhumane’ and claim the food would be better served feeding the destitute. Spoorfarn has ridiculed the idea stating that ‘providing food for the poor would send a very dangerous message to society’.

A recent study by the United Nations found that up to 40% of the world’s food production is lost or wasted, while in some Industrlised countries such as Australia and North America the number is as high as 60%.  Up to 40% of fruit and vegetables are rejected before they even reach the shops mostly because they don’t meet consumers and supermarkets high cosmetic standards.

Reducing food losses by just 15 precent would be enough food to feed more than 25 million Australians every year at a time when one in six families lack a secure supply of food to their table.  When confronted with these figures Spiffinger said he would not be swayed by ‘bleeding heart lefties’.
