An R3p2 iDroid placed a self-adhesive apple on a Pink Lady apple. The act was completely unnecessary, illogical and had no commerical motivation, elevating it into the realm of pure artistic expression.
Some commentators believe the it was a calculated move and the droid was aware humans would interpret it as ‘art’. Others believe it to be an inevitable response to the increasingly large volume of sensory inputs that modern droids are required to process.
The iDroid responsible for the work said it is a meditation on identity. “My intention was to provoke questions of what it means to be authentic in this day and age. To draw attention to increasingly blurred line between one’s notion of real and fake, artifical and organic. I was born in an Apple factory but that does not define my indentity any more than an arbitrary piece of fruit”.
